Celebration of World Heritage Day, 18 th April 2018
Cultural students pursuing BA Bhutanese and Himalayan Studies (honors) at CLCS organized an Art Exhibition for the Rigzhung family to celebrate World Heritage Day. The day offered rigzhung students an opportunity to elevate the general populace’s awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it. One of the BHS Honors students said that through the exhibition they wanted students as well as the general public to understand that visual arts can be a mean to revitalize olden cultural traditions of Bhutan. The art exhibition themed, Colors of Culture was underlined at promoting participant’s creativity and expression of Bhutanese culture through artistic skills. The exhibition, with financial support from Tangsibji Hydropower Energy Limited (THyE) and Trongsa Dzongkha was hosted for 5 days. Inaugurated on 18th April by CLCS President, the artist’s artworks were displayed for five days for public viewing.
The competition judged by VAST team from Thimphu brought much excitement to the participants as well as the students. The highest awards for the competition classified as Colors of Culture Award was bagged by Ugyen Namdel from BA Language and Literature 1 st year with a cash prize of Nu. 15,000/- while the second highest accolade, the Heritage Award was won by Pema Tshewang from Honors in BA Bhutanese and Himalayan Studies with Nu. 10,000/-. Other participants of the competition were awarded a certificate of merit for their enthusiastic response.
The winning artwork was presented to the chief guest of the award ceremony, Dasho Dzongdha of Trongsa for his unwavering support and interest towards the exhibition while the second prize winning painting now hangs in CLCS President’s chamber.
